Goals

The course is split in two parts: Immersive Engineering and analysis case studies.
The aim of the Immersive Engineering activity is to discover some virtual reality equipment making it possible to immerse the user into a virtual world. An increased perception of this world is obtained by using stereoscopic vision and by giving contact sensations with haptic devices.
The "analysis case study" part will provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical know-how about specific issues frequently encountered in engineering analysis of products. Examples of such issues are crash analysis, fatigue analysis, plastic parts simulation behaviour, thermo-mechanical analysis...

Content

In the "Immersive Engineering" part of the course, the students have the opportunity to use software related with interaction and immersion devices. They can discover new ways of simulating a product's behaviour, either in usage or in a manufacturing situation, making it possible to improve the development process. The students also use CATIA CAD software in interaction with those immersive simulations.

The "analysis case studies" part will focus on four different topics. For each one, a teacher or a industrial expert will provide theoretical background and case studies. A practical session will also give the students the opportunity to carry out a engineering analysis study related with the topic, and to use different simulation software: Ansys Workbench, Abaqus, LS-Dyna...

Prerequisites

• Knowledge of CATIA V5
• Courses of Product Behaviour and System Dynamic Behaviour from Year 2 (or equivalent)

Tests

• 1st exam period:
Evaluation is based on a final exam related to the whole course (mark E1), and on continuous assessment related to "immersive engineering" part (mark CAie) and "analysis case study" part (mark CAacs).

• 2nd exam period: oral examination (mark E2)

N1 = (E1 + CC)/2
N2 = E2
