Goals


The course deals with the basics and fundamentals of product design methodologies, based on the students' expertise acquired within their first four years of study and their industry placements. The challenges of product design are studied as well as the most famous design methods used. The concepts of integration, life-cycle and requirement engineering are the main drivers of the course. The research section course particularly insists on the methodological analysis of the design process. The engineering section course adds tools to support the design process and their practices in use.

At the end of the course, the Engineering student will be able to:

• Know the different methods of integrated design and their principles
• Master the tools of integrated design
• Develop a project of innovative design

At the end of the course, the Research student will be able to:

• Master the key concepts of product design methodologies
• Model the design activities
• Formulate a design research issue
• Analyse a bibliography on design

Methodology of Integrated Design (18h) - Research and Engineering Section

-Systems of integrated design: modelling design activities

Product-Process Design (15h) - Engineering Section:
-Uncertainty in product development
-Design for manufacturing and assembly

-Reviews of design projects (6h) - Engineering Section

-Product-Process Design studies (13h) - Engineering Section

-Formalisation of research questions and bibliography analysis (12h) - Research Section

•Innovative Design Project - Engineering Section
-Project «Build the Future» (50 hours of individual work)

•Design Project - Research Section
-Project «Cooperate and design» (40 hours of individual work)
-Bibliographical study (10 hours of individual work)
