Goals

This course presents advanced techniques for modeling, simulation and optimization in technical product development. This 3 points are viewed as cornerstones for the DMU development and usage.

Lessons are describing the concepts while lab works are centered on operating basic tools.

    • Product architecture
    • Simulation preparation
    • Data and process models (principles, UML), system simulation
    • Idealization, simplification for simulation
    • CAD simulation link
  • Digital mock up
    • Geometrical aspects, creation, maintenance,
    • Parameterization, Direct modeling
    • Product family
    • Heterogeneous Data Integration (Space Claim, PTC, catia)
    • CAD modeling API : external control
  • Robust and optimal design
    • Design structure matrix: optimization problem
    • Continuous optimization with or without constraints: modeling, solving, constraints
    • Constraint satisfaction problem meta heuristic methods: annealing, genetic algorithms, PSO

Prerequisites

CAD modeling : basics about 3D modeling
Applied mathematics : derivative, integration, etc.
Computer science: scripting language: python, scilab, visual basic

Tests

Continuous assessment (CC)

E1 = Final written exam from the 1st exam period
E2 = Final oral or written exam from the 2nd exam period

N1 = Final mark from the 1st exam period
N2 = Final mark from the 2nd exam period

N1 = 1/3*E1 + 2/3*CC
N2 = E2
