Goal(s)

First Part
• Present the situation of the firm (a living organism) and the entrepreneur in its sector and market.

• Supply and demand structures.

• Understand industrial engineering careers in a globalised market economy.

• Present the « process » approach and the firms main processes.

• Make students aware of the importance of inter-relations which exist between the technical, economic, management and organisational aspects within the company.

Second Part

  • usual tools and methods for industrial engineers (mathematicals, publishing,etc)

Third Part
Students know there abilities about communication (strong points and points to work). Understanding communication process, growing up trust in theirselves

Content(s)


• Economy: What is a market? Nature of products. Supply and demand structures.
Some key issues in industrial engineering.

• Management: entrepreneur, firm, company organisation.
How a company is set up and how it develops.

• Marketing approach.
How to retain clients and how to develop.

• Flows: management of physical flows (stock management).
Management of information flows.

• Sociology of organisations: taking action and decision-making in a company.
Business culture.

• Mechanical engineering: some problems associated with the design and manufacturing chain. Main design tools and difficulties associated with mass production.

• Method : to contrust and present a litterature review. (bibliographic research, map of concepts, bibliiography, synthesis)

• Practical :Exercices and games, (theater,...)

Test

Continuous Assessment (CC) :
CC1 = group grade on written work : production of a map of concepts (groups of 5-8 students)
CC2 = individual grade on written work (text synthesis). The grade is transformed in a bonus/malus (-2 to +2)

E1 = group grade on final oral presentation (20 minutes, groups of 5-8 students) from 1st exam period
no 2nd exam period except on jury decision

E2 = Final individual oral exam (delivering a speech in public) from 1st exam period
no 2nd exam period except on jury decision

N1 = Final mark from 1st exam period
N2 = Final mark from 2nd exam period

N1 = (CC1 + E1)/2 + CC2
N2 = N1
