Goal(s)

Products and systems are changing continuously with the emergence of new technologies and with the need to meet new and varied customer demands.

This course makes future Design Engineers aware of issues related to the design of control strategies for embedded systems. Mass production, limited computing resources and changes in operating conditions all require designing robust control systems with high performance and low complexity.

The course also enables students to discover, understand and implement control algorithms in a micro-processor.

The student is able to:

  • Master technological choices concerning sensors and actuators when developing new products
  • Apply advanced techniques for estimation and control leading to 'intelligent' products
  • Control mechatronic systems with embedded control techniques

Content(s)

Students will develop the necessary skills through a number of different activities.

12h CM + 12h TD (using a simulated system) + 8h TP (using a real system)
(Lectures = 12 hours / Tutorials = 12 hours / Practical work = 8 hours)

• The course mechatronics systems control contains both theoretical and experimental approaches. Keeping in mind theory learnt during the course, students will handle equipment so as to better understand the ins and outs of certain means and methods of experimental control and analysis systems.

  • Introduction to mechatronic systems
  • Analysis and control of these systems
  • Estimation of state variables
  • Implementation of control algorithms in a micro-processor

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of product technologies
  • Basic knowledge on Linear Algebra
  • Industrial Control and Data Processing course (S2)

Test

  • Mark: 30% Tutorial work + 30% Practical work + 40% Individual Exam
  • The evaluation concerns written reports on tutorials and practical work + a theoretical exam

Presence at lectures, tutorials and practical work is compulsory.
Non-justified absence during the course will penalise marks.

note UE : 30% TD + 30% TP + 40% DS

Calendar

The course exists in the following branches:
