Goal(s)

The operator internship aims to place students in a production situation in an industrial environment so that they can conduct observations and interviews in situ and conduct an assessment of this situation from different angles of industrial engineering.

Students are asked to take advantage of this experience to sharpen their observation skills and carry out in-depth evaluation work in the field of Industrial Engineering.

This assessment activity is a first implementation of skill no. 1 of the skills framework of the School of Industrial Engineering: "Evaluate a situation in an industrial context". It aims to enable students to develop a daily critical look at work, its organization and its support tools in order to analyze performance and define improvement objectives. Thus, during the internship, on one hand they will perform work prescribed by your hierarchy, and on the other hand they will collect information to be able to carry out a "situated evaluation" from their workstation. This assessment is the central part of the internship report.

Content(s)

This internship is first of all an opportunity to discover the company through the workstation student occupy and then a favorable ground for evaluating a situation in an industrial context. The evaluation they will have to develop will be a “situated evaluation”, in other words it will be carried out:

• from their tasks, on the content of their work and its environment,
• from the place (function) they occupy in the organization,
• but also from they subjective experience (difficulty, pain, pleasure).

It will therefore be a question, from their position, of observing, describing and evaluating a situation in an industrial context, about which they will have collected data (observations, interviews). The term "situation in an industrial context" refers to:
-a process (or part of a process: some activities) which can be a technical process (design, industrialization, manufacturing, maintenance, recycling), a management process (processing of an order, planning of production, shipping of products products, purchasing/supply management, stock management, quality control, project management, management of customer returns/complaints) or a support process (finance/accounting, payroll management, IT management, staff training, etc.)

• an organizational unit: a service, a department, a workshop, a store, etc.
  -a product or even a system (complex product), a machine, a technical installation
  -a computer system or an information system
  -a function (role held by an individual in the company)
  ans so on

No prerequisites necessary except an understanding of the objective
This is a performing course where the student will have to take the place of an operator or a technician in order to be able to analyze the situation afterwards.
