After the detailed stages of the design process, the product is represented as a nominal CAD model and requirements. The product has then to be manufactured and thus a manufactuirng process has to be selected.

In this course we will focus on the choice of manufacturing process from CAD, requirements and available ressources to properly make the part.
The course will first introduce the principles and technologies in machining. In a second part the method to select and organise a manufactruing process will be presented

  • Principles of cutting application to turning and milling
  • Machinning tecgnologies: machines, tools, fixtures
  • Machining operations
  • Features identifications and machining operations selection
  • Fixturing principles and desing
  • Process definition

  • Analysis of mechanisms from 3D models (Digital Mock-Up - DMU) or 2D (plans)
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical technologies (assembling, guiding)
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing technologies (casting, injecting, die forging, turning, milling)


Semester 8 - The exam is given in english only 

P1 = manufacturing process design project and practices feedback

E1 = Final written exam from 1st exam period
E2 = Written or oral exam from 2nd exam period

N1 = Final mark from 1st exam period
N2 = Final mark from 2nd exam period

The jury may decide to move up to the next year subject to deferred validation by this EU. This decision remains exceptional; the jury is sovereign for each student.

N1 = (E1 + P1)/2
N2 = E2
