Goal(s)
This course complements other courses related to manufacturing processes for mechanical parts by introducing recent developments in the field of manufacturing and its simulation.
The course focuses on a research topic developed within the G-SCOP laboratory:
- The use of new additive manufacturing technologies, with particular emphasis on design for additive manufacturing.
By the end of the module, the student will be able to:
- Select and implement an appropriate additive manufacturing technology, and design a part according to the specific constraints of that technology.
Content(s)
CONTENTS
- Introduction to Rhino and Grasshopper: parametric modeling, advanced geometric generation
- Design approach adapted to additive manufacturing: geometric constraints, design freedom, function integration
- Recent developments in additive manufacturing
- Principles and applications of topological optimization
- Principles and applications of CAD reconstruction using data from topological optimization results
- Principles and applications of CAM for EBM additive manufacturing: support generation, nesting, slicing, manufacturing parameters
- Economic, environmental and industrial aspects of EBM additive manufacturing technology
- Part quality and post-processing: resolution, roughness, porosity, finishes
- Recent developments in additive manufacturing: new technologies, innovative materials, process hybridization.
