Goal(s)
• Understand how data is used.
• Describe the legal rules and regulatory obligations in the United States, Europe, and China that may apply to the use of personal data.
• Identify digital platform business models based on data use and platform strategies.
• Identify the challenges of regulating the digital economy.
• Understand the European Commission's strategy to create a data market and the issues of data monetization.
• Describe and understand the strategies of platforms to make consumers "addicted" to data consumption as well as the regulations intended to limit these practices.
• Describe the environmental issues of the economic model based on data exploitation.
Content(s)
The digitalization of the economy is a hot topic. This course deals with the digital economy and how it impacts the strategies of companies regarding the collection and use of data. We will also identify the challenges of collecting data and present the technical, economic and legal aspects.
