Goal(s)

This course provides an elementary introduction to statistics with applications.

Statistics provide decision-making tools to process and analyse collected data (market studies in marketing, production quality monitoring...).

In this course, students learn how to process and summarise data (descriptive statistics) and how to make decisions and predictions from experimental data or from directly observing phenomena (introducing hypothesis testing).

At the end of this course, students are capable of:

-using basic statistic tools: statistical estimation and testing, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing and linear regression,

-building a test and analysing the results,

-using software for simulating, testing and analysing data (R software, Excel).
